We remember when we were children, feeling uncertainty about beginning martial arts. We wondered if we had what it took to succeed and we weren't the most athletic or confident child - quite the opposite. Little did we know that beginning our martial arts journeys would be one of the most profound experiences of our lives!
When we opened our school in 2011, we made a commitment to serving and empowering the community of Simpsonville and Greenville by teaching children and adults the confidence, leadership and fitness skills that can only be achieved through martial arts.

Songahm Taekwondo is the style of martial arts practiced by ATA Martial Arts students. The journey from White Belt to Black Belt (10 belts total) is one of incremental learning and skill development that students of any age any fitness level can embark on.
Taekwondo developed thousands of years ago and has since spread internationally to become one of the world's most successful and popular martial arts. It is often explained that Taekwondo is the “Kicking Art.” It is known for its dynamic ability to use our kicks as our primary self-defense tool. The philosophy is quite logical, use your strongest limbs to defend yourself, and be faster than anyone else while doing it.
Taekwondo practitioners enjoy physical and mental discipline, as well as excellent fitness and the ability to defend themselves if necessary. Taekwondo is not only a combat sport, but is also a way of life for enthusiasts around the globe. Taekwondo also emphasizes breaking power, such as splitting wood and bricks using only the bare hands and feet. Training involves a variety of techniques to include punching, kicking, dodging, jumping, parrying and blocking. Taekwondo also focuses on sparring and learning formal patterns of movement called forms. The style of Taekwondo supported by the ATA is known as Songahm Taekwondo, a style specifically developed over 20 years' time by Eternal Grand Master H.U. Lee to make it accessible to anyone willing to learn, and to truly reflect Taekwondo and the strength and beauty of its kicking techniques.
One of the most fun parts of martial arts training is the ability to test your skills by competing in a tournament. Tournaments are not only fun for competitors, but they also become a great social experience for parents as well! There are currently 130,000 ATA Martial Arts members worldwide. ATA Martial Arts students compete in local tournaments against other ATA schools, advancing from District levels, to State levels, to a yearly Spring National competition in Las Vegas, NV. The competition winners gather at the ATA World Expo Tournament in Little Rock, AR in the summer, competing against finalists from all over the planet in one of largest martial arts competitions in the world.
